Theater Emory’s production of Lysistrata or Lucy’s Strategy: Atlanta’s Stolen Erection (a new translation of an ancient Greek comedy) is an “R-Rated” comedy about women’s mission to bring an end to the years of conflict and war among imagined Southern American city-states. The character Lucy convinces the women of the warring city-states to join her sex strike to force the men to negotiate peace.
Content Advisory: This production of Lysistrata, or Lucy’s Strategy: Atlanta’s Stolen Erection (a new translation of an ancient Greek comedy) contains mature themes and content that may be sensitive for some audiences, including Sexual Themes & Innuendo, an exploration of Gender Stereotypes & Power Dynamics, Mature Language & Explicit Humor, Physical Comedy, and Theatrical Representations of War and Violence. Additionally, this production features a variety of playful phallic representations, some exaggerated, some absurd, and none of them the real thing. Think props, not parts. All in a playful path to Peace. Audience discretion is advised—unless you appreciate a good, cheeky comedy. In that case, discretion is entirely optional.
